Solar Rooftop – Frequently Asked Questions

Clear & honest answers from Suryodhaya Enterprise

How much subsidy is available for rooftop solar?
  • ₹30,000 for 1 kW
  • ₹60,000 for 2 kW
  • Up to ₹78,000 for systems from 3 kW to 10 kW
Why is the subsidy limited to ₹78,000?

The subsidy scheme is designed mainly to support middle-class and lower-income households. Full subsidy benefits apply only up to 3 kW. Systems above 3 kW are eligible only up to ₹78,000.

Will the solar system work during a power cut?

No. In an on-grid solar system, the inverter automatically shuts down when grid power fails. This is a mandatory safety feature.

Can home appliances run on solar power?

Yes. Appliances like AC, refrigerator, geyser, washing machine, and lights work normally. Solar power output is the same 230V as grid electricity.

What are the benefits of an on-grid solar system?
  • Electricity bill can reduce to almost ₹0
  • Net-metering benefit
  • Government subsidy eligibility
  • Very low maintenance
  • Payback in 3–5 years
How much will my electricity bill reduce?

A 3 kW system generates about 350–400 units per month. If your bill is ₹2,000–₹3,000, it can reduce to nearly zero.

Is my roof suitable for solar installation?

Most RCC roofs are suitable. The roof should be shadow-free and structurally strong. Site inspection confirms feasibility.

How much roof area is required?
  • 1 kW – 90 to 100 sq. ft.
  • 3 kW – 270 to 300 sq. ft.
  • 5 kW – 450 to 500 sq. ft.
Which direction should solar panels face?

South-facing panels generate maximum power in India. East-West orientation also works efficiently.

Will solar panels damage my roof?

No. Panels are mounted with special structures and waterproofing to protect roof integrity.

Can solar be installed on tin or sheet roofs?

Yes. Special mounting structures are used. Cost and design may vary.

Does solar work on cloudy or rainy days?

Yes, but with reduced output. Solar panels do not generate power at night.

Does dust affect solar generation?

Yes. Monthly cleaning with water helps maintain efficiency.

What happens if solar produces more power than I use?

Extra power is exported to the grid through net metering and adjusted in your electricity bill.

How is solar export measured?

A bi-directional net meter records imported and exported electricity separately.

What warranty and maintenance is provided?
  • Panels: 25–30 years
  • Inverter: Up to 7 years
  • Workmanship: 5 years

Note: Physical glass damage is not covered.

Is bank loan available for solar installation?

Yes. Loans up to 90% are available at approx. 6.5–7% interest with 3, 5, or 10-year tenure. Subsidy can be adjusted against the loan.

Can I upgrade or shift my solar system later?

Yes. Upgrades are possible if roof space and load allow. Shifting to a new location requires new approvals.

Is solar worth installing now?

Yes. With rising electricity tariffs, solar is one of the best long-term investments.
